The best gaming keyboard I’ve reviewed all year is down to $145 for Black Friday-

You know what makes a gaming keyboard great? Lubed switches. That might not have been what you thought I’d say, but when you get going on a board with such slick switches, it’s typing bliss. That’s why I love the Asus ROG Strix Scope II 96 Wireless—it offers all the important features for a PC gamer with the added benefit of lubed switches.

The Strix II 96 is also $144.99 over at Amazon for Black Friday right now.

I waxed lyrical about how great a set of finely lubed mechanical switches are in my Asus ROG Strix Scope II 96 Wireless review, but I’ll give you the skinny here, too. A drop of lube inside each switch makes for a much smoother actuation and a satisfying clack. Each switch is responsive, smooth, and you can happily glide between them for work involving …

TF2 voice cast chaos now includes ABBA parody because why not-

In 2022, a group of voice actors from Team Fortress 2—Valve’s game of first-person shooting and endlessly shouting “MEDDDICCC!” when I’m right behind you, like I always am—caused chaos across small-town America in a hunt for sandwiches. Well, “sandviches”. They were also searching for the Medic, because some things never change.

It was a delightful series in which the actors, including Ellen McLain, who portrayed TF2’s loudspeaker-dominating Administrator but is more famous as GLaDOS from the Portal games, baffled bystanders while blaring at each other in-character. The videos have peaked in their most recent chapter: the Search for Sandvich becomes Song for Sandvich, with the voice actors performing a version of Mamma Mia by ABBA only with the lyrics changed to refere…

Spinoff of cute little Factory Town turns it into a sprawling spreadsheet exercise-

The industrially-inspired town building game Factory Town has a spinoff as of this week, packing the entire experience of building up and expanding an oddly factory-like society into a series of oddly spreadsheet-like screens. All of which depict the details of an oddly factory-like society. I think you get my drift.

My drift being this is a great game if you, like me, enjoy complex production chains, optimizing incomes to match outputs, and—generally speaking—when numbers go up. There’s a demo if you’re curious.

It starts pretty simple, with a few clicks here and there generating resources and putting up buildings full of workers to craft things with those resources. From there, it becomes ever-more-complex as you choose what items to sell at market and which to…

The Among Us crewmates are coming to Vampire Survivors as its developer booms ‘no realm or plane of reality is off limits’-

Poncle have announced a new DLC for our best roguelike of 2022: Vampire Survivors, in collaboration with Innersloth’s Among Us. This new DLC called Emergency Meeting is set to arrive on PC on December 18, 2023.

The announcement came as part of the Day of the Devs livestream on the Game Awards YouTube channel, with an impressive animated trailer which also highlighted a bit of crewmate gameplay at the end. Emergency Meeting will bring new “Crewmates, weapons, power-ups, and a stage inspired by the Imposter-hunting hit, Among us” according to Poncle’s Emergency Meeting FAQ.

Vampire Survivors received a mighty score of 87 in our review, so the prospect of 9 new characters, 15 new weapons, 1 new stage, a fresh adventure, and 20 in-game u…

The BBC dons its game dev cap to combine 2 things I fear and don’t understand- The UK General Election and Roblox-

In the ultimate team-up of ‘things I dread the societal consequences of’, the UK General Election is coming to Roblox. It’s courtesy of the BBC, and is meant to serve as “an engaging and fun way to learn more about the country’s election whilst interacting with [the BBC’s] top political experts.” Naturally, it’s been set up to coincide with the upcoming election on July 4, the first one the UK has had since, let me see, three prime ministers ago.

In practice, what that means is that the BBC’s Wonder Chase Roblox area—a big rambling space full of activities based on the Beeb’s shows—has had its heart converted into a mockup of 10 Downing Street, presided over by the watchful eye of Larry the cat, the real-life chief mouser to the cabinet office. Also presided over…

Steam’s next Steam Next Fest is now live on Steam-

The latest go-around of the nigh-overwhelming Steam Next Fest is live, meaning that you once again have precisely one week to power through literally hundreds of demos of upcoming games on Steam.

It’s “nigh-overwhelming” because there’s just so much to play, and such a limited amount of time in which to play it all. It’s great for getting hands-on time with games you’re looking forward to, absolutely, but if you’re a “gotta play ’em all” completionist, it’s has the potential to be a very rough week. I calculated for the February Next Fest that you could dedicated approximately 12 minutes per demo if you wanted to get through them all, assuming you didn’t waste time on food or sleep; that is admittedly not the most precise measure possible, but neither is it realistic so I’m not go…

Myst creator defends its use of ‘AI assisted content’ in latest game (updated)-

Update (June 9): Firmament developer Cyan Worlds issued a longer statement on Twitter, reiterating that the game’s voice performances were not AI generated—they were done by a staff member who chose not to be credited—and adding that AI writing tools were used to “ideate and experiment” rather than to generate text wholesale, and that AI art tools were also used to “ideate” and only on “texture assets for very specific scenarios.”

“Cyan has a talented team of individuals (all human beings) with a breadth of skills and experience who have been working on this game for over four years, from scratch,” wrote the studio. “We are disappointed to see their contributions minimized and overshadowed by egregious speculation about our usage of AI tools. Although …
